Itinerary

  • Day 1Entebbe to Bwindi. Arrive in Entebbe and connect onward by domestic flight to Bwindi (Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip, approx. 1 hour — a scenic alternative to the 8–9 hour road transfer). Check in to your lodge in the Buhoma or Ruhija sector, with an optional guided village walk in the afternoon. Trip briefing in the evening.
  • Day 2Gorilla trekking day. An early 6am briefing at the ranger station sets the day in motion. Accompanied by expert guides and trackers, trek through dense forest — anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the gorillas' location — to spend a full, unforgettable hour with a habituated gorilla family.
  • Day 3Chimpanzee trekking. Head back into Bwindi in search of one of the forest's chimpanzee communities, tracking these highly social primates through the canopy with an experienced guide.
  • Day 4Return to Entebbe. Fly back to Entebbe. Optional detour to Mabamba Swamp in search of the elusive shoebill stork, or a relaxed visit to Entebbe Botanical Gardens before your evening departure.
  • Day 5Departure. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

Good to know

  • Only 8 people may trek each gorilla family per day — permits must be secured well in advance
  • Domestic flights to and from Bwindi in place of the 8–9 hour road transfer
  • Expert guides and trackers on both the gorilla and chimpanzee treks
  • Extendable with Lake Bunyonyi, Queen Elizabeth National Park or a Batwa community visit
